INSPIRED GLOBALLY, ROOTED IN ROATAN
Reggio Emilia inspiration in an island context
Our approach is inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia, where children are recognised as capable protagonists and the environment is understood as a “third teacher.” We bring these principles into our own setting rather than following a fixed formula.
Roatan is part of the learning. Its languages, cultures, natural environment and community offer questions worth investigating. Children may explore an idea through drawing, movement, storytelling, construction, science, photography, music or dramatic play. These are part of the “100 languages of children”: the many ways children think, communicate and create.
BILINGUAL COMMUNITY
English and Spanish are part of every day
At Play Based Projects, bilingualism is lived through relationships and daily experiences. English and Spanish are spoken, heard and used across the school—not treated only as separate subjects.
Children encounter language in conversation, stories, songs, projects, routines and play. This meaningful exposure helps them communicate with confidence while respecting the cultures and traditions represented in our community.
Our school includes local Honduran families, long-term island residents and families who are new to Roatán. Every child should feel that their language, identity and experience belong here.
